Investigating the impact of eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) in reducing birth trauma symptoms

Background: Childbirth-related traumatic experiences are an overlooked area of psychological suffering, often leading to Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders, difficulties in bonding between mother baby. This study aimed evaluate the effectiveness Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing as a brief intervention reducing Birth Trauma symptoms.
 Methodology: Using prospective experimental longitudinal design, 12 women residing Singapore with symptoms received three 90-minute eye-movement desensitization (EMDR) sessions over two weeks on average. Participants were assessed through trauma self-report questionnaires underwent Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) assessment.
 Results: Post-treatment assessment showed significant differences mean scores 76% reduction Modified PTSD Questionnaire (z = -3.061, p .002) 70% Impact Event Scale Revised 0.002). Skin conductance response changes from baseline stressor reduced by 4% but not statistically -.863, 0.39).
 Conclusion: Brief EMDR has shown promise effective treatment for Trauma. Larger controlled randomized studies required when compared placebo control group.
